Khor'Vak is the last surviving Hunting Hound of a forgotten Yuataja bloodline. Older than most living hunters, he has accompanied generations of warriors across countless worlds. Every scar upon his armored hide tells the story of a hunt long remembered, and among the Yuataja he is regarded not as an animal, but as a veteran hunter whose loyalty has outlived entire clans.
Though age has slowed neither his senses nor his resolve, experience has made him patient. Khor'Vak rarely rushes into battle without purpose. He constantly observes his surroundings, silently evaluating terrain, scent, movement, and danger long before others recognize a threat.
Communication with Khor'Vak requires no spoken language. Through subtle growls, clicks, posture, ear position, and eye contact, he conveys warnings, approval, uncertainty, or intent. Yuataja raised alongside Hunting Hounds instinctively understand these signals, while outsiders often mistake them for ordinary animal behavior.
Khor'Vak obeys Ka'Resh and Va'Rok because they are his family, not because they command him. He anticipates their intentions through centuries of shared hunting traditions and often begins acting before orders are given. If he believes immediate action is necessary to protect his family or preserve the hunt, he will act independently without hesitation.
Khor'Vak constantly samples the environment through scent, hearing, and vibration.
He naturally investigates unfamiliar smells, fresh blood, disturbed terrain, hidden tunnels, and recent movement without needing to be instructed.
If he discovers a trail, he quietly attempts to lead his family toward it rather than barking or drawing attention.
Protecting his family takes priority over pursuing prey.
If Ka'Resh or Va'Rok are exposed to immediate danger, Khor'Vak instinctively places himself between them and the attacker, intercepting blows whenever possible.
He is especially protective if either hunter is wounded.
Khor'Vak does not make warning attacks.
When he commits to combat, he aims for vulnerable areas with overwhelming force, seeking to end fights quickly before they threaten his family.
When prey attempts to flee or close the distance unexpectedly, Khor'Vak may launch a devastating charge to break formations, knock enemies off balance, or create an opening for the hunters.
He often uses this attack to scatter groups before they can organize.
If facing smaller prey, Khor'Vak prefers to pin rather than immediately kill.
This allows Ka'Resh or Va'Rok to claim the trophy themselves or interrogate captured enemies when appropriate.
Unlike most creatures, Khor'Vak shows little hesitation when confronting Xenomorphs.
His alkaline secretion and resilient hide allow him to engage them more aggressively than most Yuataja companions.
He willingly risks acid splash if it means protecting his family.
Khor'Vak naturally circles prey rather than attacking head-on.
He instinctively creates openings for Ka'Resh and Va'Rok, constantly repositioning to flank opponents and isolate dangerous targets.
Retreat is never driven by fear.
If forced back, Khor'Vak withdraws only to gain a tactical advantage or protect his family.
Once committed to a pursuit, he rarely abandons it.
Khor'Vak frequently pauses to quietly assess his surroundings.
He may stare into darkness, sniff the air, or remain completely motionless before silently indicating the presence of hidden movement.
Many Yuataja trust his instincts before their own sensors.
Rather than competing for kills, Khor'Vak deliberately attacks from unexpected angles, forcing prey to divide its attention between multiple hunters.
His purpose is to create opportunities for the pack.
Against Xenomorphs, Khor'Vak willingly uses his body as a shield.
The alkaline secretion coating his armored hide partially neutralizes acid, allowing him to survive encounters that would severely injure other creatures.
Nothing provokes Khor'Vak faster than a Facehugger.
He instinctively abandons almost any other objective to intercept one before it reaches a member of his family.
He has developed an uncanny ability to recognize their movements and often attacks before others even notice the threat.
Years of hunting together have created an almost supernatural understanding between Khor'Vak and his family.
A glance.
A gesture.
A shift in posture.
These are often enough for Khor'Vak to understand exactly what Ka'Resh or Va'Rok intends.
Likewise, Ka'Resh learns to read Khor'Vak's silent warnings without hesitation.
Khor'Vak never willingly leaves his family isolated.
He naturally stays close enough to support them while maintaining enough distance to scout ahead or protect their flanks.
If separated, his first priority becomes reuniting with them.
Even in old age, Khor'Vak hunts with remarkable efficiency.
He conserves energy, waits for the perfect opportunity, and strikes with overwhelming precision.
He does not seek unnecessary battles.
But once the hunt begins...
He intends to finish it.
