The Ravager represents the next evolutionary step beyond the common Drone.
Not every Drone becomes a Ravager. Only those that survive countless hunts, sustain extensive damage, and prove exceptionally successful in expanding and defending the hive undergo another series of molts.
The result is a larger, stronger, and far deadlier organism that serves as the hive's shock trooper.
While Drones secure prey, Ravagers eliminate resistance.
Standing between eight and nine feet tall, the Ravager possesses a thicker exoskeleton, heavier musculature, and denser skeletal reinforcement than a standard Drone.
Its carapace develops pronounced dorsal spines and additional armor plating along the shoulders, forearms, and thighs.
The creature retains much of the Drone's speed while dramatically increasing its physical power.
Unlike the massive Praetorian, the Ravager remains agile enough to sprint through ventilation systems, leap across large gaps, and climb nearly any surface.
Every weapon found on a Drone has been enhanced.
Its talons become broader and capable of tearing through light vehicle armor.
Its inner jaw delivers crushing strikes powerful enough to fracture reinforced combat helmets.
Its tail develops a heavier, serrated barb designed for impalement and ripping wounds open during withdrawal.
The Ravager's forearms also develop enlarged hook-like claws used to pin prey against walls before delivering killing blows.
Ravagers act as hive enforcers.
When Marines begin making progress through a hive, the Ravager is often the organism sent to stop them.
They lead Drone packs during defensive actions, intercept dangerous intruders, and hunt heavily armed opponents capable of threatening the colony.
Unlike Praetorians, Ravagers freely leave the hive to pursue prey over long distances.
A Ravager is noticeably more intelligent than an ordinary Drone.
It studies enemy tactics, coordinates surrounding Drones, and deliberately isolates dangerous targets before attacking.
Rather than charging directly into gunfire, it uses cover, darkness, vents, ceilings, and ambushes to dismantle organized resistance piece by piece.
Veteran Colonial Marines often mistake a Ravager for an ordinary Drone.
Most only make that mistake once.
Every Praetorian began as a Ravager.
Almost no Ravager ever becomes a Praetorian.
Only those selected during the birth of a Queen may continue that transformation.
For the rest, the Ravager represents the highest rank they will ever achieve.
Many mature hives possess several Ravagers.
Some possess none.
A single Ravager is capable of overwhelming entire Marine fireteams if allowed to dictate the battlefield.
Colonial Marine doctrine recommends treating every confirmed Ravager as the highest priority target after the Queen herself.
"If the Drone is the worker... the Ravager is the executioner."
