Sporting new is a newspaper stall selling newspapers and periodicals linked to various sporting events and races that are going on in the city. The stall is run by a dwarf called Grant Thunderbucket.
When looking around the stall the party will see customers coming in and buying things from Grant, he will note the sale in a green sales ledge he keeps beneath the counter, and then the customer will leave with their paper.
If the party look for anything suspicious or watch the shop customers the party must make a Perception Check DC 12 . A success will reveal that some of the customers speak to owner and pay for their paper, then attempt to walk out of the shop forgetting to take any paper with them. Grant quickly grabs their arm when they do this, and thrusts one of the nearby newspapers into their hands. It's not obvious what the customers are paying for, but the newspapers seem to be an after thought.
If the party ask to see the shops records or sales ledge, Grant will take a book from beneath the counter and give it to them. Scanning the contents of the sales ledger will reveal that everything looks completely above board.
Perception Check DC13 for anything suspicious will result in the party realising the book they have been given has a red cover & not green. There must be a second sales ledger hidden beneath the counter.
Grant will deny the existence of a second book, but it is easy to find with an Investigation Check DC10. If they succeed give the party @Bookie's Gambling Ledger. The second sales ledger proves that Grant has been acting as an unlicenced bookie.
If the party discover the truth they can impose a fine of 25 gold on the business and update their mission. If they don't find the real book they should only be given the option of noting that the business seems to be fully compliant with it's trading licence.
