Description
December 1984. Snowfall has come to the small town of Ridgeton, Colorado which lies nestled beneath the wings of scenic snow-capped mountains. Built around these main industries: logging, ice fishing, salmon fishing, and resorts and recreation, residents begin to worry when a massive snow storm threatens to shut down travel and shipments only 12 days before Christmas. 'Haulmerch' is the local delivery company that claims it can move goods on time. (Tone: Hearth, Snow, Romcom, Hallmark, Xmas)
Author's Note
(For the Creator Spotlight: Winter 2025 Contest) Perhaps something a little different... I've been interested in the formula Hallmark uses for their sappy romance Christmas and holiday-themed movies that come out on or after Thanksgiving. I wondered, if I created a setting and gave Franz the formula, could he pull off a something like that and create a holiday-themed romantic adventure, starring you? And I decided why not put it smack dab in the middle of the 1980s. I grew up in the 80s and have nostalgic feelings around it: snow ball fights, building snow forts, going sledding at our local elementary school hill. Electronics were certainly on the rise, but no one had a clue what a smart phone would become and how intrusive it'd be in our lives. TV was our intrusive monster, and in our family we didn't get one until I was 12, so I spent much of my early childhood out of doors. Recommended Starts: - Robert James at 'Robert James's Logging Rig' POI. - Rebecca Valencia at 'Slopeside Hotel' POI. You might need to add this to your working context when the game starts: "Misc: Setting: warm, uplifting romantic comedy. Purpose: immersion in a lighthearted, hopeful journey where love, Christmas spirit, and personal growth shine through the winter setting. Narrative focus is on comedic mishaps, budding romance, and the joyous atmosphere of a Hallmark-style story, while acknowledging real challenges in relationships and the ongoing blizzard in small-town life." (Check with Franz using "OOC-What is this game about?" In my tests, he was able to figure it out. If not, add the above.) Of course, you don't have to use the default setting. The setting of the fictional town of Ridgeton in December of 1984 can be anything you want it to be. The holiday setting has been often juxtaposed against many darker tales: Gremlins, Slasher, Stranger Things, Alien Invasion, etc. If you don't want to play the default, just tell Franz the style of game you're interested in playing once the game starts. For a consistent art theme for new characters, tell Franz to use: "Purple evening glow of a winter mountainscape in December 1984. Gently falling snow."
