Description
A three colony ships traveling across the galaxy slip into a time wormhole. The huge ships all revert back to steampunk tech. Some human DNA unravels, individuals revert back to long lost races of myth. The ships emerge stranded in a huge crater on a strange new planet. Huge mud flats with cracks the size of deep canyons dominate the landscape. DNA is unpredictable as well as memory of pre wormhole tech. New invention takes the place of the forgotten. Now rumors and aspirations drive adventures.
Author's Note
The "Crater" a exciting and ever-changing land. The mountains surrounding the miles and miles of baked mudflats are steep and unstable. Snow and ice cap the Everest like peaks. Runoff runs down fast moving streams and disappears into the boulder fields that lay at the foot of the mountains. From there the water seeps down to the level of the canyons floor. From there they stream out forming slow moving creeks and large strips of marshland. Here in the humid dark with black sand beaches, the fungus flourish. Ninety percent of native life dwells here. Vast cave systems stretch out for miles into the faces of the hundreds of grand canyons that spider the mudflats. Only clay like mud covers the floor of the Crater. Nothing but a form of mildew grows near the crater edges. Obsidian is the stone here. This suggests high heat melted the ground when the meteor hit and formed the black mountains. All the sand was flash heated and pushed to form the edge of the Crater. As such glass is hard to come by and very expensive. Only in the canyons can sand be found. Metal also is scarce here. There is a little in the boulder fields, found in the heart of the building sized boulders. Mines going deep into the mudflats find metal slivers and parts from ancient civilization or crashed craft of some sort. The wormhole appears once every ten years or so. When it does it rains debris for a day. Some craft have been seen dropping from the sky. Rusted hulks or chunks of something technically made. They tend to roll down the mountains ending up behind the boulder fields or tipping into the canyons. Only a few have landed nearby giving much needed resources. The three colony ships were mostly undamaged when the wormhole left them on the ground. Why they didn't also drop from the sky is a mystery. The three ships are Hammer, Courage and Lucky. These landed miles apart and for years were unable to connect. Cities formed around them and society rose. Human DNA is fractured by the wormhole. Just before landing crew members could be seen mutating into a new race. Sometimes a crew member would divide like a huge cell forming two new life forms. And rarely they would form cocoons in random hidden spaces from skin cells or an old drop of blood on a sharp corner. Eladrin (elves), Delver (dwarves), Drow (dark elves), Gremlin (goblin), Gronk ( orcs) and Tots (halflings) formed with ancient tendencies and traits. The wormhole also creates time slip or a space time anomaly. Seemingly reversing time in the wormhole. Now those used to futuristic tech are left with cog systems and steampunk. The Crater, this planet seems to meld with each new variable introduced to it. Giving rise to the mostly inorganic Clock people and the strange intelligent fungus known as the Shroom. What other developments and secrets lie ahead. Fifty years later the ships don't have the capability to enter space. Will you be the one to develop it or will you continue to make this place home? May fortune follow you!
