THUNDER RIFT

Fantasy
THUNDER RIFT world illustration

Description

An ancient, self-contained frontier valley with varied terrain, including barren rocky hills, sweeping grasslands, forests, rivers, lakes, murky swamps, and ruins all as wild as the creatures and monsters in them. The valley is bordered by high, steep, jagged mountains, with only a few known passes to outside lands. Only a few small, isolated frontier settlements surrounded by a vast, untamed wilderness, offering numerous opportunities for exploration and adventure. Classic DND fantasy survival.

Author's Note

Welcome to Thunder Rift*, the valley of frontier adventure! Within this area setting, player characters will find intrigue, fearsome creatures and priceless treasures. In the forests or on the open plains, the valley of the Rift is full of surprises (Not to mention Hidden Histories). Around every corner, beasts await unwary fools who pay no attention to their surroundings, but for those who come well prepared, the bounty of Thunder Rift is tremendous. From the Plunging Cataract Falls to the fog-shrouded Keep of the Black Knight, Thunder Rift should provide enough adventure to keep PCs busy for a long time. Within this area setting, you will gradually (IF YOU KEEP THE AREAS AND POI HIDDEN - THINK HEXPLORATION!) learn about the general layout of the valley, about some of the creatures found therein, and other points that should be of interest to you as an adventurer. There are also details of the three major settlements of Thunder Rift, allowing the PCs to interact with the local populations. The settlements offer bases of operation for them (not to mention their own internal adventures and hooks/ quests to others), and they create a possible background setting for those players who want to make up a history for their characters. The PCs may choose to play descendants of the great adventurers who originally colonized Thunder Rift, or they may play travellers who have heard of the riches/ mystery of the area and hope to take some of that wealth/ knowledge away with them having just come into the Rift with a merchant caravan as a guard or a paying passenger maybe?? There is some Lore provided (BUT PLEASE RP ITS AQUIZITION IF YOU ARENT A NATIVE - VIA THE LIBRARY IN Melinir OR CHATTING WITH SOME (NATIVE) OLD FOLK OR MAYBE YOU DID FIND AN OLD TOME IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD!?) *Thunder Rift is not specific to any particular fantasy (D&D) world (although there is a lot of canon for the world of Mystara), which means that it can be placed in any campaign setting that you choose. Whether it is placed into a Known World or one designed especially by you, Thunder Rift can be located anywhere there are large mountain ranges. So theoretically you could start your F&F character in one of the other many D&D fantasy worlds available on F&F then take them to this one for a change or you could start them here then when you feel like it have them leave the rift and go to one of the others, almost seamlessly. Well this is my first attempt at putting up a world in F&F I didn't think about it too much so sorry in advance as I am sure its lacking mainly in the quest area, but I hope you enjoy it. Otherwise I am sure someone will clone it and make good with it. I plan on putting two more up "CR-2335 CE: Accursed Earth", a CoC post apocalyptic scifi horror world and "Hyperborea" an Astonishing Swordsman and Sorcerers of Hyperborea world. (I have been waiting to see if the devs incorporate different TTRPG systems first lol.)
