The Druchii

The Druchii – The Dark Elves of Naggaroth

@Black Ark "Citadel of Desolation" @Druchii

The Druchii, known to the wider world as the Dark Elves, are one of the most feared and cruel civilizations in the Warhammer world. They are the bitter kin of the High Elves and share the same ancient origins, yet where their cousins pursue discipline and nobility, the Druchii embrace ambition, cruelty, and domination. Among the Elven peoples they are infamous for their sadistic culture, relentless warfare, and vast networks of slave raids that reach across the oceans.

The Dark Elves dwell in the bleak continent of Naggaroth, a harsh land of frozen coasts, jagged mountains, and dark forests known as the Land of Chill. This hostile environment has shaped their society into one of ruthless survival and constant intrigue. The cities of the Druchii rise like black iron fortresses amid the wilderness, ruled by tyrants and nobles whose power is maintained through assassination, betrayal, and fear.

Origins and the Sundering

Long ago, all Elves were united in a mighty civilization centered on the magical island of Ulthuan. The seeds of the Dark Elves were sown during a catastrophic civil war known as the Sundering, which shattered the unity of the Elven race. The conflict began when Malekith, son of the legendary Phoenix King Aenarion, attempted to claim the throne of Ulthuan. When his claim was rejected, he led a rebellion against the High Elves.

The war was devastating, unleashing immense magical forces that reshaped the world and destroyed entire regions of Ulthuan. When Malekith’s rebellion failed, he and his followers were driven into exile across the ocean. There, in the desolate lands of Naggaroth, they founded a new empire fueled by bitterness, vengeance, and a desire to one day reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs.

From this moment onward the exiled Elves began calling themselves Druchii, a word that carries connotations of suffering, darkness, and vengeance. Their hatred for their kin has endured for millennia, and their fleets frequently launch raids against Ulthuan and other lands in pursuit of slaves and revenge.

The Witch King

The Dark Elf civilization is ruled by Malekith, known throughout the world as the Witch King of Naggaroth. Encased in enchanted armor after surviving the magical flames that nearly killed him during the Sundering, Malekith is a terrifying figure of ancient power and unyielding ambition.

Malekith governs his empire with iron authority, relying on a web of noble houses, dreadlords, sorceresses, and assassins to maintain control. While the Druchii are infamous for their treachery and internal rivalries, all ultimately fear the wrath of their king. His rule has lasted thousands of years, shaping Dark Elf society into a brutal hierarchy where strength and cunning determine survival.

Behind the throne stands Morathi, Malekith’s mother and one of the most powerful sorceresses in the world. Her influence over Dark Elf society is immense, and many whisper that she was instrumental in shaping the Druchii’s obsession with dark magic and forbidden power.

Society of Cruelty

Druchii society is rigidly hierarchical and dominated by noble houses that compete endlessly for influence. Power is won through cunning, treachery, and strength. Assassination, betrayal, and political intrigue are common tools in the struggle for dominance.

At the very top stand the Dreadlords, the noble rulers of cities and armies. Beneath them are warriors, corsairs, sorceresses, and priestesses of the murderous god Khaine, whose cult holds enormous influence in Dark Elf culture. Worship of Khaine glorifies violence, sacrifice, and ruthless strength, ideals that perfectly match the Druchii worldview.

At the bottom of society are the countless slaves captured in raids across the world. Humans, Orcs, and other races are dragged in chains to Naggaroth where they labor in mines, fight in arenas, or are sacrificed in bloody rituals. Slave raids are a central part of the Dark Elf economy and culture, carried out by fleets of corsairs who strike coastal settlements with terrifying speed.

Cities of the Druchii

The Dark Elves inhabit a number of formidable cities across Naggaroth. The greatest of these is Naggarond, the Black City, seat of the Witch King and the heart of Druchii power. Towering black spires and iron walls dominate its skyline, while its streets echo with the cries of slaves and the whispers of conspirators.

Other major cities include:

  • Ghrond, a center of sorcery and magical learning.

  • Har Ganeth, the City of Executioners and a holy place of the Cult of Khaine.

  • Karond Kar, known for its beastmasters and monstrous war beasts.

  • Clar Karond, a major port and center of the slave trade.

From these strongholds the Dark Elves project their power across the seas, launching raids and invasions wherever wealth and slaves can be found.

Warfare and Raiding

War is central to the Druchii way of life. Their armies are disciplined yet terrifying, combining elite warriors, deadly assassins, and powerful sorceresses. Dark Elf tactics often rely on speed, ambush, and overwhelming brutality.

Their infamous Black Arks—vast floating fortresses—carry entire armies across the oceans, allowing them to strike distant shores without warning. Wherever these dark fleets appear, terror follows.

The Dark Elves are also known for their mastery of monstrous creatures. Cold Ones, hydras, and even enslaved black dragons serve in their armies, adding to their reputation as one of the most dangerous forces in the Warhammer world.

A People of Hatred

Above all else, the Druchii are driven by hatred and ambition. They believe themselves the rightful rulers of the Elven race and view other peoples as little more than tools or prey. Compassion is considered weakness, while cruelty and ruthlessness are celebrated as virtues.

For thousands of years they have waged war, plotted revenge, and expanded their dominion across Naggaroth and beyond. To the Dark Elves, the world exists for only one purpose: to be conquered, enslaved, and bent to their will.
