FableAI vs Friends & Fables: Plan and Feature Comparison

When looking for an AI RPG, it's good to know what they have to offer before you commit to them. FableAI and Friends and Fables both use AI to generate fantasy adventures with texts and images, but they're aimed at slightly different audiences. Fable AI is a mobile story first game where you use gems to get AI narration and art. Friends and Fables is a lot closer to a tabletop style RPG game with 5e inspired rules, maps, tokens, and a focus on building your own worlds. This article shows the different free and paid subscription tiers and compares the prices and features of the two platforms.

FableAI Pricing (as of late 2025)

Note: FableAI is sold through mobile app stores, so prices can shift a little by region.
  • Free Plan – $0/month
    • About 100 gems per day, with a small cap on how many gems can stack up.
    • Standard generation speed.
    • A limited number of image generations per day.
    • Extra gems can be earned over time or by watching ads, and you can also buy gem packs if you want to binge longer sessions.
  • Starter – $2.90/month
    • Roughly 1,000 gems per day with a higher storage cap.
    • Priority generation speeds.
    • A small amount of cinematic voice narration each month (beta).
  • Explorer – $8.90/month
    • Around 3,000 gems per day with a bigger cap.
    • Faster responses.
    • Unlimited high-quality image generation plus more monthly narration minutes.
  • Adventurer – $18.90/month
    • Around 8,000 gems per day, up to a much larger cap.
    • Early access to new features.
    • About 1 hour of voice narration (beta) each month.
  • Hero – $33.00/month
    • Around 14,000 gems per day up to the highest cap.
    • Around 2 hours of cinematic voice narration per month.
    • Extra creator features like story cards for building multi-step adventures and series.

FableAI is free to download and play. The whole system runs on gems, a currency you spend on AI responses and image generation. Different AI narrators (Wordie, Scribbles, Gravel, Celestial, Azure, Orion) cost different amounts of gems per use, with the better narrators using more. In short, FableAI’s plans mostly scale around how many gems you get each day and how quickly you can spend them on narration and images.

Feature Comparison

*There are no rules, every scene or conflict is handled using narrative text instead of game mechanics.

**FableAI lets creators build adventures, story cards, and “adventure series,” so you can chain content together, but there isn’t a separate world-lore system with pages that the AI reads.

At a glance, FableAI is a great fit if you want a solo or small-group story game on your phone, with daily gem refills, multiple narrator styles, and built-in image generation that makes each scene look cool. You’re mostly there for narrative, not for complicated combat or strict rules. Friends & Fables leans into being a full creation platform: AI Game Master + Virtual Tabletop + a deep, free world-building suite and a structured lore system that the AI reads from during play.
