There was once a time where I had wished with all my heart for an AI RPG game to be able to run a real tabletop roleplay experience. I have scoured far and wide, but it wasn't until I found Friends & Fables that I was truly satisfied. Even though it's still in beta and there are some bugs, the game meets and exceeds all of my expectations. It's not just like any other AI RPG. It's one of the most immersive because the platform combines world maps, battlemaps, and automatic tracking so that you can get that TTRPG experience that you've been craving that most AIs are unable to deliver.
Most tabletop RPG apps are just note-taking tools or digital dice rollers hooked up to AI. Friends & Fables is much more than that. Friends & Fables is the world's first generative tabletop role-playing game (GTTRPG). When you play the game, you aren't just being shown static maps and what things look like. You get to watch as the AI tracks where your character is on the world maps, and moves you around as you move around in the narrative.
When you tell the AI that you're heading north into the mountains, or you're heading south into a forest, you get to watch as the AI calculates the distance traveled by the amount of in-game hours that pass. Watching your token move across a world map with the power of AI is incredibly satisfying.
Not only are the world maps incredibly satisfying to watch, but the battle maps give that classic TTRPG feel that DnD and Pathfinder lovers have been waiting for from AI. There’s no need to manually move your tokens either, all you need to do is tell the AI what you’re doing on your turn and it does all the movement for you. However, that doesn’t mean you have no control or say in the matter. If you want to move your token yourself, that option is also available to you. The system is far from perfect, but for what it manages to accomplish, it is well ahead of the competition when it comes to incorporating actual TTRPG mechanics into an AI RPG.
If you want to play an RPG that feels alive, one where your hero really walks around in the world that you're playing in, then Friends & Fables sounds like the AI RPG platform for you .
