Patch Notes 25.39 - Plot & Plan Changes

10/6/2025By Friends & Fables

Hey friends,

Since shipping Franz 2.0, we’ve been hearing feedback primarily around memory + planning. We’ve got some larger updates in the works, but this 2.0.4 update should be a noticeable improvement while we get the larger updates finished. Here’s what’s new in 2.0.4:

  1. We've moved the plan from something that happens at the end of Franz's turn, to something that happens right before his narration. His planning is now done in his reasoning step. You can view his plan in the "thoughts" section of the message. Previously, the plan was generated before you sent your message. Now, the plan is created after your message. This means you should be able to steer things a bit more with the way you write your message. The “Plot & Plan” tab is now just the “Plot” tab.

  2. The plan is now ephemeral (it is rewritten each message and then discarded). Franz writes the plan based on all of the context, uses it for that turn, and then that plan is discarded. On each turn, he will write a new plan. This will help Franz feel less railroady.

  3. We have other upgrades coming to memory soon, but we've made the plot up to 2x larger. This should help short term memory feel better.

Please give it a whirl and let us know if you notice a difference! We’ve also heard feedback around characters being generated too frequently, that should be fixed shortly in 2.0.5 and then we’ll continue to tackle a larger memory update after that.
