Monsieur Renard is polite and well-bred, and despite his ambitions to turn Argenton-sur-Creuse over to the French, he wishes to do it as peacefully as possible. But if Michael Brixton proves resistant to change, he is not beyond hiring mercenaries to do the job for him.
backstory
Monsieur Renard earned his fortune in the whaling industry. He is from France, and has spent years observing the political landscape of The Rookwood. He believes that Louis Philippe I would bring stability and prosperity to Argenton-sur-Creuse, and he is determined to turn the town over to their rule. He has a strong rivalry with Captain Michael Brixton, who he sees as a barrier to his goal.
