Description

Athkatla’s Grave District, the city’s southernmost ward, serves as both necropolis and silent warning. Encircled by high stone walls and accessed only through the Cold Dolor or Sparandar Gate, the district is a solemn sprawl of grand mausoleums, sunken crypts, and weathered tombstones, many bearing the sigils of bygone merchant houses. Beneath its moss-veined walkways lies a perilous underworld—multi-tiered catacombs riddled with ancient traps, hidden shrines, and forgotten corridors. Though it is a place of funerary rites and family memorials, the Grave District is no stranger to violence. Rival guilds have fought over its subterranean vaults, while whispers tell of sewer cults, necromancers, and undying horrors that haunt its depths. It is both sacred and profane—a resting place for the dead and a refuge for the dangerous.

Appearance

A thick hush blankets the Grave District, broken only by the slow toll of unseen bells. Stately mausoleums line gravel lanes, carved with stoic angels and forgotten family crests. Flickering lanterns cast pale light onto mist-slick cobblestones. Cracked statues loom amid ivy-clad tombs, while rusted gates groan on hidden hinges. The air carries the scent of wet earth, incense, and old stone.
