The Crown Aflame stands as the spiritual heart of Lathander’s faithful in Athkatla, a radiant temple rising at the eastern edge of the Temple District. Its architecture mirrors the dawn itself: golden domes, rose-quartz archways, and high stained-glass windows that catch the morning light in dazzling patterns. Beneath its main spire burns the Eternal Ember, a magically sustained flame said to have been lit by a Dawnbringer priest during the Time of Troubles. The temple serves as a sanctuary for artists, reformers, and the hopeful, as well as a place of healing and rebirth. Pilgrims come seeking visions, and initiates train under high priestess Dawnmother Alatriel Velbrant, a charismatic yet firm devotee of renewal and vigilance. The temple holds cautious alliances with the Order of the Radiant Heart and frequently clashes ideologically with the Cowled Wizards over magical regulation.
The temple’s golden crown-like spire gleams with warm light even on cloudy days, crowned by radiant motifs of sunbursts and blooming flowers. Marble steps worn smooth by years of prayer lead to broad doors inlaid with sunstone. Inside, the air is perfumed with floral incense, and pale sunlight spills through hues of crimson, amber, and lilac glass. Mosaics of Lathander’s miracles stretch across domed ceilings, and attendants in robes of sunrise pink and gold pass silently between pews and offering shrines. A solemn peace fills the space, broken only by the soft chiming of prayer bells and the steady hum of sacred fire. The atmosphere is serene but expectant—like the hush before a new day begins.
