Description

The City Stock Exchange of Athkatla is the financial nerve center of Amn, a gleaming marble edifice where fortunes are made, lost, and speculated upon in a single breath. Operated under strict oversight from the Council of Six, this institution handles investments, commodity futures, trade charters, and speculation on guild performance. Its influence reaches across Faerûn through trade routes, merchant fleets, and financial bonds brokered with cities like Calimport, Waterdeep, and Baldur’s Gate. Within, licensed trade factors in finely tailored robes shout valuations, while guild notaries and contract mages inscribe deals into bound ledgers using spells that ensure truth and permanence. Only citizens with proper writs or guild affiliations may trade here directly, but the ripple effects of its decisions can be felt in every marketplace in Athkatla. Wealth, ambition, and danger all walk its gilded halls.

Appearance

The Exchange rises like a temple to coin—fluted columns frame its polished façade, and golden inlays shimmer between slabs of white stone. Inside, chandeliers of cut crystal hang over a vast trading pit surrounded by balconies, scrollwork ledgers, and magical tickers that float midair with ever-shifting numbers. The scent of ink and lacquered wood permeates the cool, humming air.
