Description

The Athkatlan Prison is a grim monument to Amn’s iron-fisted legalism, located at the edge of the Guards District, where marble streets yield to iron bars and silent judgment. Operated under the authority of the Council of Six and maintained by Helm’s Watchmen, the prison houses both petty criminals and dangerous insurgents—including rogue mages, political agitators, and the unfortunate pawns of noble vendettas. The upper cells are sparse but orderly, used for temporary holding. In contrast, the lower levels—known as the Black Pits—are dank, magically reinforced oubliettes guarded by Cowled Wizards and enchanted wards. Interrogations here are rumored to involve sanctioned mind-reading and even soul-binding magic. Corruption seeps through the bureaucracy: coin, leverage, or noble heritage can sometimes shift a prisoner’s fate, for better or worse.
