Cliffside Cemetery is the largest graveyard in Baldur's Gate, situated in the Tumbledown district of the Outer City, just west of Dusthawk Hill. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the River Chionthar, this cemetery serves as the final resting place for Baldurians who lack the wealth or influence for interment in ancestral crypts or temple grounds. The cemetery is overseen by the Gravemakers, a devoted group who protect the site from grave robbers, necromancers, and the occasional undead threat. Historically, the land belonged to the affluent Szarr family before being repurposed as a public burial ground.
Cliffside Cemetery presents a somber and labyrinthine landscape of headstones, tombs, sepulchers, and mausoleums of varying sizes and grandeur. The terrain is often shrouded in mist, lending an eerie atmosphere to the area. The Gravemakers, led by Leone Wen, a paladin of Torm, maintain the grounds with diligence, ensuring the dignity of the departed and the safety of visitors. Despite their efforts, the cemetery occasionally experiences disturbances from the undead, necessitating vigilance and, at times, intervention from adventurers.
