The Great Expanse

The Whispering Sea, bordering the eastern edge of the desert continent of Solaria, is characterized by its often tranquil surface, which can belie hidden currents and unpredictable squalls. Its name comes from the way the wind whispers across its open expanse and through the coastal dunes. Along the Solarian coast, you might find everything from shallow, sandy shores near oases that extend towards the water, to more rugged, rocky outcroppings further along. Trade routes likely navigate these waters, connecting coastal settlements and potentially venturing further out. The sea may also be home to unique marine life adapted to the warmer temperatures near the desert, and perhaps even the remnants of shipwrecks from those who underestimated its subtle dangers.

The Whispering Sea presents a shimmering expanse of blues, ranging from pale turquoise near the coasts to deeper azure further out. Depending on the time of day and the desert winds, its surface can be mirror-smooth or ruffled with whitecaps. Along the Solarian coastline, the contrast between the golden sands meeting the shades of blue creates a striking visual. At night, the clear desert air often allows for a brilliant reflection of the stars upon its surface.
