Description
Tunnelflies are palm-sized, bloated insects with sharp burrowing snouts, drawn to warmth and moisture. They infest rotting tunnel wood and thrive in gas-rich veins, overwhelming the unprepared with their swarming behavior. When crushed, they release a paralytic mist, and their bites can cause festering rashes if untreated. Collectors risk much to harvest their cocoons and wing-sacs.
