Volantis is a sprawling, hot, and humid Free City located at the southeastern mouth of the Rhoyne River where it meets the Summer Sea. It controls nearby cities and territories including Volon Therys, Valysar, Selhorys, and the Orange Shore, and lies near the Demon Road between it and Slaver's Bay. The city is known for its oppressive heat, heavy air, and an earthy, rank smell that permeates the streets, especially on the eastern side of the Rhoyne.

The city sprawls along the river mouth with bustling docks and crowded streets. Heat shimmers off the stone and brick buildings, creating a dreamlike haze. Narrow alleys and wide marketplaces are filled with the scent of earth and spices, while the waterfront offers cooler breezes. The ruins of Sar Mell loom in the distance to the northeast, adding a sense of ancient mystery to the vibrant cityscape.
