After The Conquest

Castle Black is a rugged fortress with no defensive walls except the massive Wall to the north. It features stone towers and timber keeps connected by subterranean passages used primarily in winter, with a small sept but no godswood, and nearby a haunted forest grove with nine weirwood heart trees.

The fortress is a stark collection of weathered stone towers and wooden keeps, surrounded by snowy plains to the south, east, and west, with the towering icy Wall looming to the north. Beneath the surface, dark, narrow tunnels link the buildings, while a modest sept stands near the center, and a distant eerie grove of ancient weirwoods lies beyond the Wall in the haunted forest.
