The Shinobi World

ANBU (short for Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai, or "Special Assassination and Tactical Squad") are an elite, covert branch of shinobi who operate directly under the village’s Kage, tasked with highly sensitive missions including assassination, surveillance, torture, and dealing with internal threats. ANBU members wear animal-themed masks to conceal their identities and abandon their personal names during duty, emphasizing secrecy, loyalty, and anonymity. Selected from the most skilled and loyal shinobi—often Jōnin or exceptional Chūnin—they are trained to suppress emotion, act without hesitation, and execute missions that fall outside the scope of ordinary shinobi conduct. ANBU may also guard the Kage, monitor rogue ninja, and handle classified matters critical to village security. Their presence is often unseen, but their impact is decisive, operating in the shadows to protect the stability of the shinobi world.
