Urû’baen, once called Ilirea, is the dark, fortified capital of the Empire in The Inheritance Cycle. Perched on a vast hill, it’s encircled by blackened walls that make it nearly impenetrable. The city has a dense, maze-like layout with dark stone buildings and narrow, winding streets. At its center looms the citadel, an imposing fortress where Galbatorix resides. The citadel’s high spires and intricate carvings reflect the city’s lost grandeur, now overshadowed by fear. Under Galbatorix’s rule, Urû’baen has become a symbol of tyranny, with soldiers and magicians patrolling its streets, ensuring control and suppressing any signs of rebellion.
