Quest for Calypso's Freedom

The Quest for Calypso's Freedom is a quest that @Leo Valdez decides to undertake with his dragon @Festus to try to rescue @Calypso from @Ogygia.

Background

After defeating the Kerkopes, Leo Valdez discovers @Odysseus' Astrolabe amongst their treasure. The dwarfs explain that @Odysseus had built it as an old man in Ithaca, but could never complete it as he lacked a needed crystal, calling the device his biggest what-if. Interested, Leo claims the astrolabe for himself.

During a fight with @Khione, Leo is flung to Ogygia where he meets Calypso, slowly falling in love with her over his time trapped on the island. Leo realizes that Odysseus had built the astrolabe in order to locate Ogygia once again and return to Calypso. When Calypso's Raft finally arrives, Leo has the Titaness chip off a piece of the crystal in her cave and promises to return for her, swearing an oath on the @River Styx to do so as he leaves.

When Leo returns to the Argo II, he is surprised to learn that Festus has been permanently activated, but pleased for the implications for his quest to rescue Calypso. As the boat sets sail for Athens, Leo tinkers with Festus' mechanical brain, muttering about the crystal and the astrolabe.

Finding a Solution

Leo works on wiring the astrolabe and the crystal together, getting frustrated with his inability to figure it out. However, while Odysseus had failed in his own attempt at returning to Calypso, Leo has the crystal to act as a homing beacon unlike the famous hero. Eventually, Leo succeeds in putting the device together and integrating it into the Argo II. After getting the @Physician's Cure and with only a day left before @Gaea rises, Leo activates the astrolabe and sets a twenty-four hour timer.

Following Leo's death defeating Gaea and his subsequent resurrection by the rebuilt Festus, he opens the access panel in the bronze dragon's neck where the astrolabe is humming away, the crystal pulsing like a neon heart. Checking the navigation readings on Festus' compass and GPS, Leo is pleased to discover that they are completely messed up. Descending below the clouds, Leo is elated to discover that Festus was able to use the astrolabe to bring them to Ogygia. Leo lands on the island where he is greeted by Calypso, keeping his oath to return and rescue her. Leo and Calypso then depart on Festus, flying off into the unknown.

Leo's Return

Six months later, @Will Solace and @Nico di Angelo reveal to @Apollo that they had received a message from Leo just days after he had died and come back, but he has yet to return to @Camp Half-Blood. With the help of @Harley's Home-Beacon, tuned with Apollo's assistance, Leo, Calypso and Festus finally make it to Camp Half-Blood after a series of adventures, including a trip to the Sea of Monsters. Calypso reveals that as a result of leaving her prison, she has lost all of her powers, including her immortality and is a regular mortal now.

A New Home

Calypso often struggles with her rescue, particularly as she has lost all of her powers. With the help of a jump-start from @Britomartis and training from @Josephine, Calypso regains her magic, although the goddess suggests that she had simply lost control of it after leaving Ogygia rather than losing her magic altogether. Apollo points out at one point that if Leo hadn't gotten her off of Ogygia, the gods could've taken another thousand years to set her free. After regaining her magic with the help of Britomartis and Josephine, Calypso finally seems to lose any remaining resentment or longing for her home on Ogygia and eagerly looks forward to her new life in Indianapolis at the @Waystation.

From time to time, Calypso also visits @Camp Half-Blood to reunite with Leo.
