Quest for the Doors of Death, Part Two

The Quest to the Doors of Death was undertaken by the crew of the Argo II in @Greece, while @Percy Jackson, @Annabeth Chase, and @Iapetus journeyed across @Tartarus so that the @Doors of Death could be simultaneously closed from both sides.

Meeting Akhlys

Bob leads the demigods to @Akhlys, goddess of misery, who shrouds them in a substance known as Death Mist, which will supposedly hide them from the monsters trying to hunt them down and kill them. Akhlys attempts to kill Percy, but he stops her with the sole use of his powers, choking Akhlys with her own poison before Annabeth stops him.

Nyx's Challenge

@Nyx was the final challenge between @Percy Jackson and @Annabeth Chase and getting to the Doors of Death. The two convinced Nyx that they had come for a tour, stating, "@Olympus is a tourist trap. The @Underworld is overdone." They informed her that she was not featured or spotlighted suggesting that perhaps she had not done anything important. She began summoning all her children, @Eris, Geras, the @Arai etc. Annabeth said we could get a picture for the scrapbook but it could not be a group shot and asked her to pick her favorite child. At this point all her children tried to prove how dark they could be. Nyx's children made it so dark even Nyx could not see so Percy and Annabeth escaped. The two jumped over @Chaos and ran through the @Mansion of Night then jumped over the River Acheron, getting to the Heart of Tartarus.

Arrival in Tartarus

Having finally arrived at the Heart of Tartarus, Percy and Annabeth were able to see how vast the @Giant Army was. They saw the Doors of Death, which looked similar to the doors on the @Empire State Building to get to Olympus. @Iapetus' brothers, @Hyperion and @Krios, were guarding the door letting monsters in.

The Escape

@Iapetus tells Percy and Annabeth how they can escape: when the doors open, they have twelve minutes to enter the elevator, making sure no one else enters with them, before the doors close. The elevator ride up to the world takes twelve minutes, and then the doors must open again quickly or whoever or whatever is inside will vanish and be destroyed. Percy and Annabeth have twelve minutes to leave the elevator before the doors close again, and they are guarded at the upper end by @Pasiphaë and @Clytius, the Giant created to oppose @Hecate. The Doors of Death normally move around unpredictably, but the elevator doors are held open with magical chains on the upper end, fixing them so that the elevator travels only between @Tartarus and a cavern at the Necromanteion's lowest level. In order to close the Doors of Death, and free them so that they resume their normal wandering behavior, these chains must be cut.

Bob/Iapetus volunteers to drive Hyperion and Krios away from the elevator doors and hold the doors open so that Percy and Annabeth can escape Tartarus. Percy protests, since he knows that this will mean Bob's death, but Bob insists. They are then confronted by Tartarus, who tries to stop them and is confronted by @Damasen. He and Bob come to their aid and hold off Tartarus while Annabeth and Percy escape the underworld.

On the other side, @Hazel Levesque and @Leo Valdez have just defeated the sorceress Pasiphaë and are trying to fight the giant Clytius, bane of @Hecate, when Annabeth and Percy appear from the Doors, unconscious. They manage to destroy the chains holding the Doors grounded on their side and defeat Clytius with the help of Hecate, @Jason Grace, @Piper McLean, @Frank Zhang and @Nico di Angelo. Together, the eight demigods escape.
