Description

The Moonsea Ride—known in Cormyr as the Mountain Ride—is a long, rugged trade and military road stretching northeast from Arabel to the port city of Hillsfar on the southern Moonsea. Forged through centuries of warfare, settlement, and royal ambition, it begins in Cormyr, passes Castle Crag and winds through Gnoll Pass in the Storm Horns, a treacherous mountain corridor once plagued by monstrous incursions. Guarded by Purple Dragons up to Gnollpost and thereafter by the garrison at Halfhap, the Ride continues to Tilverton, where it meets the North Ride and crests Tilver’s Gap into Mistledale. From there, it winds past the Standing Stone and joins Rauthauvyr’s Road through the dense woods of the Rimwood and Midwood in ancient Cormanthor, emerging on the Dalelands' northern edge before ending at the walls of Hillsfar. The Ride is a vital—if dangerous—artery for commerce, adventurers, and military movement between central Faerûn and the perilous Moonsea.

Appearance

Begins as a paved causeway with royal markers near Arabel, narrows through misty, jagged mountain passes with pine scents, passes siege-stained watchtowers, then winds through shadowy ancient oak forests with eerie silence, finally opening to grasslands near the Moonsea with salt and smoke scents.
