Description

The Northride is a crucial overland trade route that threads through the Dalelands, serving as a spine of commerce, diplomacy, and movement across the heart of northeastern Faerûn. Beginning near Tilverton, it runs eastward across the fertile valleys and gentle hills of the Dales, intersecting with roads such as the Tethyamar Trail near the hamlet of Leaning Tree. It continues through the heart of Shadowdale and toward the Standing Stone, eventually tying into other routes leading to Ashabenford and beyond. Historically patrolled by both Dalesfolk and elven rangers, the Northride is known for its relative safety, though dangers still lurk—bandits, rogue mages, or even twisted creatures from the fringes of Cormanthor. It serves not only as a trade conduit for local harvests and imported goods, but also as a symbolic link between the independent Dales and the wider world, threading together human, elven, and merchant interests along a road steeped in quiet history.

Appearance

The Northride is a narrow, well-worn road bordered by mossy stone fences and hawthorn hedgerows, passing through oak and birch groves. It features wildflower-lined ditches, sporadic lantern posts near villages, and carved waystones with elven runes, with the Shadowdale stretch shadowed by the dark Cormanthor Forest edges.
