Description

The Emberlane is the heart of the Emberlane Fold’s operations, hidden behind the soot-streaked facade of a defunct lampwright’s hall near Athkatla’s Dock District. Outwardly it appears legitimate, glowing warmly with alchemical lanterns and signs of civic pride, but inside it houses the gang’s black market dealings, firebomb stockpiles, and extortion ledgers. Enforcers and lookouts patrol the perimeter, while the main hall serves as a meeting place for threats disguised as negotiations. The city’s watch avoids the building entirely—either from bribes or fear—making it a stronghold in plain sight. Rumors suggest the lanterns themselves are enchanted alarms, and a former lampwright who helped install them may know a way to disable or bypass them. Getting in unnoticed—or out alive—is no small feat.

Appearance

From the outside, The Emberlane looks like a craftsman’s pride—an old lampwright’s hall with a still-burning iron lantern hung from a twisted beam above the entrance. Its red-orange glow never flickers, and the black-stained walls reflect the faint shimmer of magical oil used to keep it lit. The front door is brass-handled, polished from use, but flanked by shadowed windows with reinforced glass. Inside, the air is heavy with the scent of burnt resin and smokeleaf. Rows of worktables and old molds line the walls, though many are now used for brewing alchemical compounds or prepping forged permits. In the back, a long room with dim lanterns and bolted chests serves as the Fold’s “negotiation” space—low-lit, warm, and always tense. High rafters hide lookout perches, while beneath the floorboards lies a trapdoor to the storm-drains.
