Description

Redcloak Trading is one of Athkatla’s most discreet yet influential mercantile houses, known for its specialization in magical goods, enchanted curios, and rare imported arcana. Operating out of a tall, crimson-shuttered structure near the heart of the Gem District, the shop is a favored destination for adventurers, collectors, and nobles with discreet tastes. Proprietor Ribald Barterman, a charismatic and well-connected trader, maintains a reputation for neutrality and reliability, even while dealing with volatile magical wares. Though the Cowled Wizards tolerate his dealings, his operation walks a fine line—purchasers are expected to have licenses for anything overtly magical. Rumors persist that Ribald’s wealth is partly protected by arcane pacts and secret insurance with powerful factions, though no claims have ever been proven.

Appearance

The storefront of Redcloak Trading stands apart with red-tiled awnings and long banners bearing stylized sigils in gold thread—an eye above a coin, a wand crossed with a scroll. Inside, the walls are paneled in dark lacquered wood, lined with display shelves that shimmer under everburning lanterns. Velvet-lined cases contain rings, rods, and runed baubles, each tagged with elegant glyph-script. The air carries a faint smell of sandalwood and parchment, with the occasional crackle of latent magic. Ribald himself often greets guests from behind a crescent counter of inlaid teak and brass, a ledger open and quill always in hand. Subtle wards hum softly through the floor, and discreet guards—magical and mundane—keep an unblinking watch on every visitor.
