Guts is tall, extremely muscular, and imposing. He has short, spiky black hair and a single mechanical arm (with a hidden cannon) replacing the one lost during the Eclipse. He wears heavy black armor, later donning the Berserker Armor, which enhances his power but threatens his sanity. His most iconic weapon is the Dragonslayer, a massive slab-like sword that he wields with devastating force.

Guts is stoic, fiercely determined, and haunted by trauma. Early on, he is consumed by rage and revenge, living as a lone wanderer. Despite his gruff exterior and violent nature, he has a strong moral code and deeply cares for those close to him

Guts was born from the corpse of a hanged woman and raised by mercenaries in brutal conditions. After years of hardship and betrayal, he joined the Band of the Hawk, led by Griffith, and rose to become their most formidable warrior. However, Griffith's ambition led to the Eclipse, a horrific demonic ritual where Guts lost his comrades and was marked with the Brand of Sacrifice, attracting monsters to him endlessly.
