Dong Zhuo rose through the ranks of the Han military, gaining notoriety for his military prowess and ruthless tactics. After the death of Emperor Ling, he seized control of the capital, Luoyang, holding the young Emperor Xian hostage and installing himself as the de facto ruler. His reign was marked by tyranny, as he looted and burned Luoyang, indulging in an extravagant lifestyle while brutally treating his enemies and soldiers alike. His actions triggered a coalition of warlords to rise against him, plunging the Han Dynasty into chaos and accelerating its decline.
