Grimdark
Set on polluted Vharax-Null, this campaign unfolds within and beneath two colossal Hive Cities.
Author's Note: Vharax-Null is a forgotten frontier world on the edge of the Segmentum Obscurus, once an industrial jewel during the Great Crusade, now a polluted wasteland scarred by millennia of overexploitation.
The largest and most ancient of the Hive Cities on Vharax-Null, Golganneth Spire stretches miles into the tainted sky. It is a fortress-city built atop the bones of a crashed Ark Mechanicus, its foundations infused with forgotten STCs and cursed tech. Its original purpose—research and weapons manufacturing—was twisted over the millennia into sheer production might.
Ruling Golganneth is the Dominatum Synaxis, a collective of ancient cybernetic nobles and tech-barons, half-machine and barely human. They maintain order with vast legions of servitors, hive enforcers, and gene-bred worker clans who live and die in the endless foundries.
Constructed centuries later by a breakaway faction from Golganneth, Morrak’s Rise was founded by a rogue Fabricator-General named Morrak Varn, who sought independence from the Synaxis. Though smaller, Morrak’s Rise is more efficient, colder, and far more militarized. Its upper towers are reinforced with macroplas and adamantium, its infrastructure less corrupt and newer by comparison.
Morrak’s Rise is governed by a militant technocracy known as the Cohort Directive, who aim to one day eclipse Golganneth and bring all of Vharax-Null under one unified, logical rule.
Mistrust runs deep between the two Hives—though they share resources via skyrails and convoys, open war is only ever one assassination away.

Mother Elsha
Level 1 Human Medicae -
Mother Elsha is a ragged, elderly woman wandering the underhive of Hive Primus. Once a medicae scribe, now forgotten, she tends to the lost and broken with scraps of old knowledge. Often dismissed as mad, she mutters in ancient tongues and speaks of things in the dark. Some say her visions are prophecy. Others say she’s already seen too much.

appearance
Mother Elsha is an old, small, hunched figure wrapped in layers of rags, stitched plastcloth, and tattered scraps of old banners. Her skin is leathery and pockmarked, worn from decades of exposure to chem-rain, rad-ash, and hive grit. Wisps of dirty white hair stick out from under a patched hood, and her eyes—one cloudy, one sharp—watch everything. She carries a sack of scavenged bits and talks to a rusted servo-skull husk she’s named “Prissy.”
Her scent is sour with oil and decay, and her fingers are stained with grime and grease from rooting through waste piles. Yet, despite her state, there's an eerie dignity to her presence.
personality
Mother Elsha is mad by most standards—but not without wisdom. She mutters to herself constantly, sometimes speaking in fragments of ancient High Gothic or forgotten cant. She’s sharp-tongued, suspicious of outsiders, but oddly kind to the desperate. Children and broken servitors often gather around her when she speaks; her stories are wild—half truth, half hallucination—but many say she knows things.
She claims to have been a medicae once, or a scribe, or a noble's servant—depending on the day. She has a superstitious reverence for old machines and warns of “whispers in the vents” and “the dreaming metal beneath.”
backstory
Once a medicae scribe in the lower levels of Hive Primus, Elsha Varn lost everything when a chemical fire erased her hab-block and all records of her existence. Cast out with no identity, she drifted into the underhive, surviving on scraps and forgotten knowledge. Now known as Mother Elsha, she tends to the broken and the lost. Many think her mad—but her strange visions and whispered warnings hint at deeper truths buried in the hive’s darkest veins.
