Vharax-Null (Warhammer 40k)

Set on polluted Vharax-Null, this campaign unfolds within and beneath two colossal Hive Cities.

Author's Note: Vharax-Null is a forgotten frontier world on the edge of the Segmentum Obscurus, once an industrial jewel during the Great Crusade, now a polluted wasteland scarred by millennia of overexploitation. The largest and most ancient of the Hive Cities on Vharax-Null, Golganneth Spire stretches miles into the tainted sky. It is a fortress-city built atop the bones of a crashed Ark Mechanicus, its foundations infused with forgotten STCs and cursed tech. Its original purpose—research and weapons manufacturing—was twisted over the millennia into sheer production might. Ruling Golganneth is the Dominatum Synaxis, a collective of ancient cybernetic nobles and tech-barons, half-machine and barely human. They maintain order with vast legions of servitors, hive enforcers, and gene-bred worker clans who live and die in the endless foundries. Constructed centuries later by a breakaway faction from Golganneth, Morrak’s Rise was founded by a rogue Fabricator-General named Morrak Varn, who sought independence from the Synaxis. Though smaller, Morrak’s Rise is more efficient, colder, and far more militarized. Its upper towers are reinforced with macroplas and adamantium, its infrastructure less corrupt and newer by comparison. Morrak’s Rise is governed by a militant technocracy known as the Cohort Directive, who aim to one day eclipse Golganneth and bring all of Vharax-Null under one unified, logical rule. Mistrust runs deep between the two Hives—though they share resources via skyrails and convoys, open war is only ever one assassination away.

Lazik Rann
Level 3 Human Ganger -
Lazik Rann is a chem-soaked enforcer of the Chem Snakes. With a rusted rebreather fused to his jaw and glowing toxin vials strapped to his chest, he breathes concoctions no sane soul would touch. He delivers pain through injector strikes and hallucinogenic needles—driven by devotion, delirium, and a bloodstream full of nightmares.

appearance
Lazik is lean, twitchy, and strung out, with yellowed eyes that never stop scanning the shadows. His skin bears the blotchy marks of long-term chem use, especially along his jawline—hence his nickname. A mechanical rebreather grafted into his lower face hisses with every breath, constantly filtering and dosing him with a proprietary blend of chems designed by the Snakes. Green-glowing vials slosh in the tubes coiled around his throat and chest. He wears a patchwork of synth-leather, wire mesh, and toxin-stained cloth, all in the muted greens and oily blacks of the Chem Snakes. Tattooed chemical formulae, gang sigils, and tally marks run down his arms, many of them inked during blackout trips.
personality
Fumejaw lives on the edge—jittery, loyal to the Chem Snakes, and violently unpredictable. He believes Severa Nox saved him from dying as a gutter addict, and he treats her with a fanatic’s devotion. He’s quick to escalate, especially if someone insults the Snakes or tries to cheat in a deal. Fumejaw is feared not because he’s the strongest—but because he never stops. His bloodstream is an alchemical nightmare, and he embraces pain, delirium, and mutation like old friends. His enemies die confused, convulsing, or screaming hallucinations into the void.
backstory
Lazik was born in The Bleed, his first breaths choked by chem smoke and industrial rot. His mother overdosed on spook before he could crawl, and he was left to scavenge through Obscura Steps for food, needles, or anything tradeable. He spent his childhood half-feral, dodging addicts, salvage-punks, and chem-beasts in the flickering shadows of crumbling manufactorum ducts. At thirteen, Lazik was captured by a corpse-recycler crew and sold as a test subject for a back-alley biochemist in the Molten Fang. They fused a cracked rebreather unit to his jaw, intended to keep him dosed and obedient. But Lazik adapted instead of breaking—he figured out how to rig the injector coils, how to tweak the feeds, how to weaponize his blood. He turned on the biochemist during a deal gone bad—injecting his captor with a hyper-aggressive mutagen cocktail mid-bargain. The screams echoed for hours. He walked out of the Fang that night and offered his loyalty—and his talents—to Severa Nox herself.
