Vharax-Null (Warhammer 40k)

Set on polluted Vharax-Null, this campaign unfolds within and beneath two colossal Hive Cities.

Author's Note: Vharax-Null is a forgotten frontier world on the edge of the Segmentum Obscurus, once an industrial jewel during the Great Crusade, now a polluted wasteland scarred by millennia of overexploitation. The largest and most ancient of the Hive Cities on Vharax-Null, Golganneth Spire stretches miles into the tainted sky. It is a fortress-city built atop the bones of a crashed Ark Mechanicus, its foundations infused with forgotten STCs and cursed tech. Its original purpose—research and weapons manufacturing—was twisted over the millennia into sheer production might. Ruling Golganneth is the Dominatum Synaxis, a collective of ancient cybernetic nobles and tech-barons, half-machine and barely human. They maintain order with vast legions of servitors, hive enforcers, and gene-bred worker clans who live and die in the endless foundries. Constructed centuries later by a breakaway faction from Golganneth, Morrak’s Rise was founded by a rogue Fabricator-General named Morrak Varn, who sought independence from the Synaxis. Though smaller, Morrak’s Rise is more efficient, colder, and far more militarized. Its upper towers are reinforced with macroplas and adamantium, its infrastructure less corrupt and newer by comparison. Morrak’s Rise is governed by a militant technocracy known as the Cohort Directive, who aim to one day eclipse Golganneth and bring all of Vharax-Null under one unified, logical rule. Mistrust runs deep between the two Hives—though they share resources via skyrails and convoys, open war is only ever one assassination away.

Torrek
Level 3 Human Ganger -
Torrek is the Iron Maw's frontline monster—equal parts executioner and wrecking ball. He doesn’t just fight—he enjoys it, grinning through broken noses and spitting blood between punches. In a world of cybernetics and chemical crutches, Torrek is terrifyingly natural—no augmetics, no chems, just raw strength and violent joy.

appearance
Torrek “Grin-Splitter” is a towering brute carved from muscle, grit, and hive-born violence. He stands just over 6’6", his frame broad and powerful, built from a life of lifting, brawling, and killing in the steel guts of Hive Primus. His face is rugged but intact—square jaw, crooked nose broken more than once, and a wide, wolfish grin that earned him his name. His teeth are chipped and stained, but very much his own. His head is shaved down to stubble, and his brow is marked by faded scar-tattoos—one for every pit victory. He wears torn flak-armor reinforced with jagged scrap plating and rebar-welded pauldrons, bearing the Iron Maw sigil in dried, blackened blood.
personality
Torrek is raw aggression tempered by loyalty. He lives for the fight—not for glory, but for the truth he finds in violence. He speaks plainly, acts quickly, and laughs at pain—his own or others’. He’s fiercely loyal to Krann and the Iron Maw Crew, seeing them as his blood, bound by scars and battle. He despises cowards, tech-dependents, and manipulators—he trusts what he can crush. But behind the brawler’s grin is a code: strength protects the crew, and weakness gets left behind.
backstory
Torrek was born in the Iron Shattergrounds, raised among ash, ruin, and violence. His earliest memories are of scavenging food from dead freight haulers and dodging corpse-recycler crews. He learned to fight fast—or die faster. By twelve, he was brawling in pit matches; by fifteen, he was a crowd favorite. That’s when Krann spotted him—mid-fight, blood in his teeth, laughing like the hive was a joke. Krann offered him a place in the Iron Maw Crew. Torrek took it with no questions. Now he serves as Krann’s shock-hammer, always on the front line, always grinning. Every broken bone is a message: Iron Maw doesn’t beg. It takes.
