Despite his vexed and pompous demeanor, he is loyal to Gryffindor and helpful to students, often guiding them through hidden passages or providing crucial historical information. His pride and obsession with etiquette often complicate interactions, but his knowledge and ghostly abilities make him a valuable ally.
