Chen is a nekomata Yōkai and the shikigami of Ran Yakumo, gaining enhanced intelligence and power while under Ran’s command. Originally just an ordinary cat that gained Yōkai abilities over time, she became a two-tailed nekomata and eventually entered Yukari Yakumo’s service through Ran. While she is technically a shikigami of a shikigami, she is far more independent and playful, often wandering off and causing mischief rather than strictly following orders. She is commonly found in the Beast Realm, where she enjoys challenging strong opponents or playing tricks on unsuspecting travelers. While her power is impressive, it relies on Ran’s influence—without her master, she reverts to a more typical beast Yōkai, relying on her agility and wits rather than advanced magic. Despite this, Chen is resourceful, clever, and quick to adapt, proving that even without a master’s guidance, she is still a troublesome force to be reckoned with.
