Minor Characters (Betrayal at Krondor) G-J

G

Geoffrey

Geoffrey, a middle-aged man with a pleasant smile, is the owner of the Tyr-Sog common room.

Gesthane

The game's strategy guide mentions "the legend of Eliaem and Gesthane" in its description of Eliaem's Heart.[20]

Gidir

In the game's strategy guide, Gidir of the Clan Ardanien was an old moredhel spellcaster and friend of Gorath. While escaping from Sar-Sargoth, Gorath finds Gidir's slain body mounted on a pike outside the fortress. He hoists it down and takes a note and a scratched emerald from the old moredhel's pouch, whispering before setting the note on fire that Gidir has discovered how to use the emerald at Nalar's Rib to strike down traitors to the moredhel tribes by calling on the Lord of the Void. Gidir is mentioned nowhere else.[21]

Glover

Glover is a man who lives in Lyton. After Hershel accuses the party of lurking behind his house, they can hear gossip in The Wayside about Glover's foolish purchase of a worthless Skeletal Hand that had been advertised as a Glory Hand. Glover flies into a rage upon seeing the party, mistaking Seigneur James for the man who cheated him. He relates that he threw the hand into Lyton's dry well after discovering the deceit, but retrieves it in exchange for 150 sovereigns, the amount he lost on it. Despite their protests, he never believes that James was not the hand's original seller.

Gralek

Gralek is a moredhel veteran who lives in Wyke. He has a long scar from just above one eye to an unseen spot under the chin. While reluctant to let the party into his home, he recounts campaigning under Murmandamus against a Kingdom fortress and the hellish flames that engulfed them just as they gained entry, costing him most of the use of his right leg. Though his blood burns to join his kin who are mustering under Delekhan, his injury bars him from the joys of battle.

Grimm

Grimm, so named because he never laughs or smiles, is a fixture at Babon's Hostel in Questor's View. The regulars have a standing wager of 80 sovereigns for anyone who can get him to laugh. The party can try physical comedy, a bawdy jest, and a Tsurani anecdote to no avail, but can win the wager if they return to the Hostel with a culturally complex joke from Sumani. Afterward, Grimm bursts into uncontrollable laughter any time the party approaches him, preventing further discourse.

Grudan

In the strategy guide, Grudan, a dwarf of the Grey Towers, is mentioned as a grandfather of Naddur Ban Dok and McCannur Ban Dok who was alive in the days when the dwarves occupied the mountains around Sarth before its fortress was owned by the robber baron from which it would eventually pass to the Brothers of Ishap.[22]

H

Haestan

Haestan is a priest at the Temple of Kahooli who brings the party food after they subject themselves to starvation as an act of piety.

Harlan

Harlan, a sharp-faced man grimy from his work, is the master brewer at the Upturned Keg in Sloop. He is first seen outside the building carrying a keg and throwing it in among the others. He offers to decant something for the party, but they refuse in order to keep a clear head for their travels. While Harlan is usually too busy with the next batch to attend to the party, he tells them the details of the special delivery of black-tarweed-laced wine that had been ordered for the Black Sheep Tavern and is horrified at its bloody aftermath, insisting that the brewery has never been associated with anything like this and promising that any provisions he provides them will not be tainted.

Hershel

Hershel is a large man who lives in an old relay station on the King's Highway near the Six Toe Tavern. He offers the party food and cold ale, and regales them with tales of the station's history until they are ready to leave.

In Chapter 2, Hershel accuses James of being the man who was recently sneaking around behind his house.

Baron Brian Highcastle

Baron Brian Highcastle was the former baron at the Highcastle garrison. He ignored Arutha's advice during the Great Uprising and got himself killed when Highcastle was overrun by Murmandamus. James would later consider it lucky that Baron Gabot of Northwarden was less stiff-necked than Baron Highcastle.[23]

Hilar

Hilar is a typically taciturn elf who, along with Caladin and Travin, was part of a squad of six guarding the river bordering elven lands in the Green Heart. The three escorted Gorath and Owyn on the two-day journey from the river to Queen Aglaranna's court in Elvandar.[24]

Franklin Hurley

Franklin Hurley is a devotee of Silban who lives by the King's Highway north of Eggley. Summoned to the Temple of Silban by the high priestess to discuss the coming year's crops, the franklin was blocked by "three howling idiots" intent on killing anyone who approached the temple. If the party visits his house after speaking with the high priestess, he appreciates their service in dispatching the villains, insists that they take a pouch of coins as a reward, and sets off for his appointment at the temple.

I

Irlaan

Irlaan is an old, wrinkled man living in a solitary hut south of Highcastle. Once the fortress's swordmaster, he still carries his aged body with a military straightness. He shares stories about his victories and conquests, as well as accounts of the recent border skirmishes, after which, exhausted by his storytelling, he excuses himself to take a nap.

Isunatus

Isunatus of Cavall Keep is a Quegian moneylender who manages funds for Count Geoffrey Corvalis, who can be asked about him if the party finds a Note about a secret transaction in which Isunatus was given charge of 500 rubies and 200 sovereigns, the whole with a total value of up to 20,200 sovereigns. The Note detailing this exchange was magically transported, along with a Brass Spyglass, to a riddle chest west of Silden. Corvalis, though initially suspicious of the party's interest in his finances, replies proudly that he has recently made substantial deposits due to profitable investments, and that Isunatus will do the party proud if they invest with him. Elsewhere, they can learn that Delekhan has been backing the reemergence of the Nighthawks by funneling funds through Isunatus to the guild's new leader.

J

Jack

Jack was the husband of Petrumh, who saw him fall into unconsciousness and death on a night when strange lights were dancing in the woods. His passing left her in poverty and with a dread fear of faeries and elves, believing that they killed him by bringing bad luck.

In the novelization, Lysle Riggers notes that Jack died in a fire and left Petrumh a little crazy; she claims that Jack was murdered by elves.[25]

Brother Jeremy the Scribe

Brother Jeremy the Scribe lives in an isolated house north of Yabon. A balding man with a gruff voice and ink-stained palms, he asks the party to assist him with a commission he took for a merchant to survey local lockchests, promising a reward for information on the contents of a chest located to the west of Hawk's Hollow. If the party returns after opening the Chest, they angrily confront Jeremy with the fact that it had been rigged to explode, suspecting that this was why he had not opened it himself. Jeremy denies awareness of the trap, and, resentful of their suspicions, shoves the promised reward -- a 100% copy of Thiful's Bird Migrations -- into their hands before shutting the door.

The party can also receive a note sent by Jeremy to Lord Lyton providing the solutions to three fairy chests he has catalogued in the Lyton region, promising more information by post when further wordlocks can be decoded.

Jodwah

Jodwah, father of Delekhan, was the leader of the Eagle Clan of the Northern Lakes, one of the clans that assembled to hear the Speaker's attempt at unification. When the Speaker's peace dissolved, Jodwah's brother Ashantuk betrayed and murdered Gorath's father, leaving the boy to take his father's place as leader of the Hawk Clan. After growing to adulthood, Gorath tracked down Ashantuk, flung his head at Jodwah's feet, and defeated Jodwah in fair combat, leading to the two clans merging into the Clan Ardanien. Jodwah's death, however, left Delekhan Gorath's blood enemy from birth.[26]

Father John

Father John, an aged man with finely wrinkled dark skin and snow-drift hair and beard, is the abbot of the Abbey of Ishap at Sarth. If the party visits him at the temple, he accepts their praise of the work the Abbey is doing, saying that it is only just beginning but that but the work of Brothers Anthony and Marc have taken them a long way. He directs his guests to Brother Marc and the Abbey's book collection for more detailed information.
