Minor Characters (Betrayal at Krondor) M-N
M
Mara
Mara is the Lady of House Acoma on Kelewan. She is a major leader of an anti-traditionalist movement favoring the adoption of Midkemian values among the Tsurani, and her influence is felt even by the Assembly of Magicians. Among other innovations, she accepted many houseless grey warriors into her estate. Baron Kevin recalls the Tsurani espionage tactics he observed while working for Mara during his enslavement on Kelewan.
Mariah
Mariah is a priest at the Temple of Sung. Along with a taller fellow priest, Kellan, Mariah helped to put the high priestess to bed after she woke up screaming during the period of sleep depravation suffered by those in range of Nago's dream-sendings. Mariah sensed the presence of others, perhaps soldiers, near the magician sending the messages, was able to discern that his communications were intended for someone far away, and told the party that the person responsible was very close by. If the party first visits the temple after defeating Nago, it is Mariah who insists that the party be rewarded for their help.
Marchus
Marchus is a hunter who lives with his wife in an isolated house on the road leading northwest from the fork to Highcastle. His wife, a pleasant woman, tells the party that he is out hunting, and relates that during his last hunting trip he found some chests with strange writing on them, directing the party to find them southward, off the road past a pile of rocks, and then west to the edge of the mountains.
Latham McCann
Latham McCann is named on a memorial marker in the Ancient Valheru Ruins, with the epitaph, "Loved the mines. Never wanted to leave." 50 sovereigns are hidden underneath the marker.
Brother Michael
Brother Michael, the Keeper of the Gate at the Abbey of Ishap at Sarth, is a very old gray-haired monk who carries a large warhammer and stands strong and upright despite his age. When Owyn and Gorath are admitted to the Abbey, he utters an oath on Tith's beard, startled to see a moredhel ride freely into the fortress. Dominic, the Brother Prior, lets him know that they have arrived with a message from Abbot Graves, and remarks to the party that Michael was a warrior earlier in life and occasionally falls back into old habits. Gorath, acknowledging the old warrior's vigilence, inclines his head slightly to show respect.[31]
Melos
Melos of the Clan Ardanien was the son of Gorath's mother's sister. Under Gorath's command, he and the Ardanien held the flank during Murmandamus's assault on Armengar, but died there along with a third of the Ardanien's warriors.[32]
Baron Moyiet
Baron Moyiet was a daring garrison leader under whom Squire Locklear briefly entered military service. He kept a watchful and unforgiving eye on the moredhel in the aftermath of the Riftwar. When preparing to infiltrate Raglam in search of moredhel battle plans, Locklear mentions a Captain Moyiet as an example of the friends he has lost every time he travels to the Northlands. It is unclear from the game's text whether the Baron and Captain are the same person.
In the novelization, Arutha sent Locklear to attend the needs of Baron Moyiet at Tyr-Sog for one year to get him away from an angry cuckolded husband in Krondor. The Baron's flirtatious daughter fawned on Locklear during his first visit with his household; Moyiet entertained Locklear at the castle only twice after that, with the daughter conspicuously absent each time. Less than a week after Locklear's arrival, Moyiet assigned him to accompany the special patrol east of the city, during which the patrol rescued Gorath from his pursuers and took him under guard for transport south.[33] In Krondor, Arutha asked for a good reason why Locklear had left his duty to Baron Moyiet, and accepted the urgency of Gorath's mission as justification.[34]
Murad
Murad was the chieftain of the moredhel Clan Badger from the Teeth of the World. Gorath once saw him break a warrior's back over his knee. Despite his considerable power, Murad became first among the followers of Murmandamus, counseled him, and cut out his own tongue as a display of loyalty. Delekhan shared meals with Murad and Murmandamus's Pantathian followers[35] and was sheltered in his early career by his proximity to them.[36]
Murphy
Murphy, a massively built human, lives in a visibly large-scale house in Wolfram, where he serves as the town's hangman. Both he and Gorath are unsettled to find each other of similar height when he answers the door. He tells the party about the local tavern and weapons shop, and relates that the inn closed down and is now used for hangings. Intimidated, the party thanks him for his help and departs.
Murray
Murray, an old, sickly human who lives in Tyr-Sog, is an undertaker with an irreverent and practical attitude toward his profession. If the party visits him, he mentions a story he heard a month before from the gravedigger of LaMut, who claimed that a mysterious new grave had appeared in the graveyard there but was afraid of shades and refused to investigate it. Murray, a cynic who has never seen a ghost, scoffs at this "supernatural humbo" and dismisses the notion of life after death. If the party returns to his house, he does not answer the door and they conclude that he is asleep.
Myron
Myron is a solicitor who does legal work for Count Corvalis. He lives just outside Cavall Keep with his daughter, Ami, and has a minor claim to nobility through his brother, an Earl. Corvalis disapproves of his seeking Ugyne's hand, seeing his ties to nobility as too tenuous for consideration.
In the novelization, Myron, a widower who serves as Corvallis's solicitor and has a little daughter whom Ugyne adores, is lowborn himself but is the nephew of the late Earl of Silden on his mother's side. Due to this tenuous tie to nobility, Corvallis, aware that he loves Ugyne, would be willing to suffer him to ask for her hand; she, however, finds him nice but predictable and is not ready to settle down.[37]
N
Nakor
Nakor the Islani, a magician of whom Macros once told Pug, is one of four magicians whom Pug believed capable of skirting the first line of defenses at Sethanon. Pug ultimately concluded that the Northlands would hold little interest for Nakor and dismissed him as a suspect.

Father Nathan
Father Nathan is a priest from Krondor. Ten years earlier, he synthesized the first antidote for Silverthorn poison, saving the life of the Princess Anita. He believes in an order of things, attributed to the balance imposed by Ishap in which priesthoods serve lesser gods through whom greater gods rule.
Nicholas
Nicholas is the name of Prince Arutha conDoin's great-grandfather. Arutha and Princess Anita intend to name their next coming child Nicholas if it is a boy.[38]
Nightmaster
The Nightmaster is an important member of the Mockers. During the initial troubles with the Crawler's agents, he put out word that any Mocker to encounter Jimmy the Hand should assist him in any manner possible and answer any questions he might have. He later informed the Mockers of the death of the Upright Man. Shortly thereafter, he was targeted by two murderous agents of the Crawler and his life was saved by Limm. As thanks, he gave Limm an Amulet which the Upright Man used to carry for luck.
