Zatapek
Warning!
This article contains plot or ending spoilers.
Zatapek, a Great One from the Assembly of Magicians on Kelewan, was one of The Six. He participated in their activities, advising Delekhan to destroy the Clan Ardanien, serving as his trusted advisors, using their power to keep other moredhel clans subordinate to Delekhan, and advising his son Moraeulf in Harlik before being assigned to maintain an energy barrier around certain underground chambers in the Sethanon Caverns while Makala investigated a "mighty weapon" secreted within.
The Six maintained the barrier in groups of two, and were warned that they might have to defend it from Pug, whom they knew as Milamber. He and a younger colleague were the second group whom Pug confronted. He scoffed at Pug's claim that he had been misled and was complicit in the deaths of innocents, claiming that others also believe Pug to be more invested in the Kingdom of the Isles than the Tsuranuanni Empire and to have concealed the "weapon" to be used against them. In the ensuing battle, Zatapek and his colleague were both killed.
Later, Zatapek's master asked after him by name, indifferently expressing hope that he and his colleagues had not suffered unduly trying to stop Pug. Enraged, Pug retorted that they died like true Tsurani, obedient and ignorant of their master's duplicity. Owyn also recognized a spell the master flung at him as a variation on the compressed-air spell he had used against Zatapek and was able to shield himself from serious harm.[55]
