Owyn Beleforte — The Baron’s Youngest Son
Aliases & Titles
Owyn Beleforte — Youngest son of the Baron of Timons.
The Baron’s Spare (in court whispers) — a reminder that he is not the heir, but still carries the weight of noble expectation.
The Apprentice Who Ran (to those who know the truth) — for leaving the safety of home to follow a calling few in his station would dare.
Race: Human (Isleman) Homeland: Timons, Kingdom of the Isles Known For: Noble birth, budding magical talent, and an impulsive leap into a world far more dangerous than the one he was raised to inherit.
I. Early Life in Timons
Owyn was born into privilege, the youngest of the Baron of Timons’ sons. His childhood was one of tutors, etiquette lessons, and the quiet certainty that his life would be one of comfort and duty — but not of inheritance. As the “spare,” he was free from the crushing weight of succession, yet bound by the expectation to serve the family’s interests.
From an early age, Owyn displayed a restless curiosity. He was quick with questions, quicker with his hands, and prone to wandering the castle’s less‑traveled corridors in search of things he wasn’t supposed to see. His fascination with the arcane began when he stumbled upon an old grimoire in the estate’s library — a relic from a time when the Belefortes had closer ties to the magicians of Stardock.
II. The Spark of Magic
While his family valued diplomacy and swordsmanship, Owyn’s mind was drawn to the mysteries of magic. Under the discreet guidance of a visiting court magician, he began to learn the basics — cantrips, minor wards, the theory of spellcraft. It was enough to awaken a hunger for more, but not enough to satisfy it.
The Baron tolerated his youngest son’s “hobby” so long as it didn’t interfere with his duties. But Owyn’s growing skill — and his tendency to test spells in places they didn’t belong — began to draw attention. Some saw promise. Others saw trouble.
III. Restlessness and Rebellion
Life in Timons was safe, predictable… and suffocating. Owyn wanted more than polite conversation and carefully arranged hunts. He wanted to see the world beyond the family’s lands, to test himself against something real.
When rumours of unrest in the Northlands reached Timons, Owyn’s imagination caught fire. Tales of Moredhel raids, political intrigue, and ancient magic stirred something in him — a sense that history was moving, and he was standing still.
IV. The Choice to Leave
The decision came quietly. One night, Owyn packed a satchel with a few changes of clothes, a handful of coins, and the grimoire that had started it all. He left a note for his family — polite, apologetic, and utterly unconvincing — and slipped away before dawn.
He told himself it was just for a season, a journey to learn more of the world before returning to take up his place. But deep down, he knew he was chasing something he couldn’t find in Timons: purpose.
V. Personality and Traits
Bright‑Eyed Curiosity: Eager to learn, sometimes to the point of recklessness.
Quick Wit: Uses humour to mask uncertainty and to connect with strangers.
Idealistic Core: Believes in doing the right thing, even when it’s dangerous.
Unpolished Courage: Brave, but still learning the cost of bravery.
Magical Aptitude: Raw talent in the arcane, with much to learn.
VI. Where the Story Stands
As Betrayal at Krondor begins, Owyn’s path crosses with two men who will change his life: Sir Locklear, a seasoned knight in Arutha’s service, and Gorath, a Moredhel chieftain in chains. Drawn into their mission almost by accident, Owyn finds himself far from home, facing dangers his noble upbringing never prepared him for.
He doesn’t yet know the scale of the game he’s stepped into — only that he’s in it now, and turning back is no longer an option.
