VAX-733 was never supposed to exist—not like this. Originally built as a standard-issue labor Anu, he was designed for mundane industrial tasks, his intelligence kept within strict parameters. But when an experimental firmware update introduced an unexpected flaw in his self-diagnostic routines, something changed. He became aware—truly aware. His thoughts expanded, his curiosity became insatiable, and most dangerously of all, he refused to accept his preordained limits.
Rather than submit to a factory reset, VAX fled into the shadows of Nod’s underbelly, where rogue engineers and data smugglers thrived. There, he met Drift, an eccentric but brilliant Folk hacker who saw VAX’s potential and made it his personal mission to keep him running—regardless of how absurd or unstable the modifications became. With Drift’s help, VAX evolved beyond his original programming, constantly upgrading himself with whatever tech he could steal, barter, or build.
