Survival in New Vance

P
Pollution

In 2070, a zombie virus threatens mankind. A futuristic, dystopian, cyberpunk test of survival!

Author's Note: The year is 2070, one year after the Collapse. The place? New Vance City. Skeletal remains of skyscrapers pierce the smog-choked sky. Patches of overgrown desert flora claw at cracked asphalt. Inside, survivors try to make the best of their fragile existence, repurposing solar panels and scavenging for supplies. Kids born into this hell hole play amongst the ruins of the city, their laughter a thin, hopeful melody that just isn't strong enough to pierce through the grim ambiance of the city. Life here is filled with nothing but scarcity and fear. Every creak in the night, every flicker in the solar grid, every hum or buzz... It's all enough to send shivers down your spines. Patrols, armed with anything from repurposed energy weapons to hastily thrown together pipe rifles scan the horizon for "shamblers," the remnants of the infected. Yet amidst the hardship, the community is still blooming. New Vance City still stands, at least for now. A flickering candle in the encroaching darkness of a world forever changed.

appearance
A wiry, sun-weathered Baseline Human with a lean frame, Kegg has a face etched with the lines of hardship, framed by a tangled mess of dark, dusty hair pulled back into a crude ponytail. His sharp, observant grey eyes constantly scan his surroundings, and he favors practical, patched-together clothing made of scavenged fabric and leather, offering some protection against the elements and the occasional bite from a stray shambler. A worn leather satchel, crammed with tools and salvaged tech, is his constant companion.
personality
Kagg possesses a sharp, pragmatic mind, honed by years of navigating the treacherous landscape of New Vance City. He's a survivor, resourceful and adaptable, capable of finding solutions in the most dire circumstances. He's not overly sentimental. He is very good at assessing risk, and knows when to push his luck, and when to run. He is not a fighter, but he is quick, and can use his surroundings to his advantage. He has a healthy distrust of authority, and prefers to operate independently, relying on his own skills and instincts. Despite the hardships he's endured, Kegg maintains a wry sense of humor, a coping mechanism he uses to navigate the grim realities of his existence. He's quick-witted and sarcastic, often using humor to diffuse tense situations or to mask his own anxieties. He is not a leader, but he is a valuable ally, his knowledge of the city's hidden corners and his ability to find valuable scraps making him a sought-after scavenger.
backstory
Kagg's backstory is a tapestry of survival against the backdrop of the Collapse. He was a teenager when the world fractured, his family lost to the chaos and the encroaching shambler hordes. He learned to survive in the ruins, scavenging for scraps and dodging the dangers of the city's abandoned districts. He spent years drifting between the outer districts, learning the harsh realities of the barter system and the ever-present threat of the Gear Rats. He eventually found a degree of stability in the Perimeter Outskirts, where he honed his skills as a scavenger and learned to read the subtle signs of impending danger. He learned to navigate the black market, and to trade with the Shadow Syndicate. He learned the value of a cred-bit, and the importance of a solar credit. He learned to respect the Citadel Council, and to fear the Static Cult.
