Author's Note: The year is 2070, one year after the Collapse. The place? New Vance City. Skeletal remains of skyscrapers pierce the smog-choked sky. Patches of overgrown desert flora claw at cracked asphalt. Inside, survivors try to make the best of their fragile existence, repurposing solar panels and scavenging for supplies. Kids growing up in this hell hole play amongst the ruins of the city, their laughter a thin, hopeful melody that just isn't strong enough to pierce through the grim ambiance of the city. Life here is filled with nothing but scarcity and fear. Every creak in the night, every flicker in the solar grid, every hum or buzz... It's all enough to send shivers down your spines. Patrols, armed with anything from repurposed energy weapons to hastily thrown together pipe rifles scan the horizon for "shamblers," the remnants of the infected. Yet amidst the hardship, the community is still blooming. New Vance City still stands, at least for now. A flickering candle in the encroaching darkness of a world forever changed.

Kael wears a blackened leather apron layered with salvaged armor plating, every inch stitched with surgical thread or bolted tight. A rotary bone saw hangs on a retractable sling from his belt, next to a scalpel holster and vials of pain-dulling injectors. His clinic looks more like a butcher’s den than a place of healing—walls ringed with armature limbs, jaw mounts, and half-screaming chrome skulls. When he walks, the clang of boots on grating follows like punctuation to his silent disdain.

Darius Kael is direct, detached, and efficient—surgical precision embodied in a man built for the wasteland. He doesn’t do pity or platitudes, just results. Patients are puzzles to solve and meat to rebuild. While some see him as cold, others know he’s brutally fair—he won’t scam you, won’t upsell, and never installs shoddy work. His loyalty to the Gear Rats is purely practical; they bring him parts, he brings them back from the brink. Anyone else? Triple the price or don't knock at all.
backstory
A trauma surgeon during the early days of the Collapse, Darius Kael was left behind when the hospitals fell. He found sanctuary among the Gear Rats, who didn’t care about bedside manner—only results. Kael adapted fast. He turned his Hippocratic oath into something more fitting: "If you survive, I’ve done my job." Now he’s one of the Rust Belt’s premier Stitchers—half medic, half mechanic—known for bolting entire limbs back on with buzzsaws and grit. His pitbay is where shattered warlords, junked scavvers, and broken raiders crawl when death isn’t an option. His loyalty is to the steel, and his table only honors payment in salvage.
