appearance
Tabaxi alchemist. At 60 years old, Cinders stands at 5’10” with a lithe, well-muscled frame covered in short, dark fur, patterned with swirling orange and black that mimics the look of smoke and embers. His fur pattern almost seems alive, shifting subtly with the light. His deep amber eyes hold a sharp, calculating gaze, though they also carry a touch of wisdom and a lifetime of mischief. Though still agile, his movements have a more measured grace compared to his younger days. The lines around his eyes and mouth are more pronounced, evidence of a life well-lived, filled with both smiles and the occasional frown. Cinders’ ears are slightly elongated, giving him an air of both feline and elven grace. His attire—a patchwork of leather, cloth, and materials scavenged from his travels—has seen wear, but it’s worn proudly. He often has vials, small pouches of herbs, and tools for alchemy attached to his belt, along with the faint smell of smoke and chemical concoctions.
personality
Cinders is a tabaxi of deep contrasts: he’s both charming and aloof, loyal yet mercenary. His chaotic nature means he doesn’t follow a clear moral code, but he adheres to a personal sense of fairness, where he will help those he finds intriguing or beneficial to his goals. He finds Kaelith’s calm demeanor and thoughtful approach to problems amusing and occasionally a good foil to his more reckless tendencies. Cinders enjoys taking risks, especially when it involves creating a new concoction or sneaking something valuable past an authority. However, despite his carefree attitude, he is highly intelligent, with a mind that’s always scheming—whether it’s for profit or amusement. He has a certain fondness for the underdog, which sometimes makes him aid those in need even if there’s nothing in it for him. Cinders is a thrill-seeker and a social chameleon, able to adapt to various situations with ease and grace, making him a valuable friend but a dangerous foe.
backstory
Cinders was born in the far-reaching southern jungles, where his natural curiosity for alchemy and the arcane blossomed. He left his tribe early, driven by a desire to see the world beyond his homeland. He met Kaelith, when the drow was struggling to find his footing on the surface, years after leaving the Underdark. Cinders was already an experienced smuggler and alchemist, dabbling in both potent concoctions and rare illegal materials. They formed an unlikely partnership, navigating the wilds together and exchanging knowledge. Over the decades, Cinders honed his skills in blending alchemical creations with his smuggling activities, becoming a known figure in both the underworld and legitimate markets. His alliance with Kaelith was marked by jobs that often saw them crossing paths with dangerous factions, shady merchants, and the occasional Flaming Fist. Now, years later, Cinders is based in a trading outpost run by the Flaming Fist, providing his services to anyone with coin.
