appearance
Myrkul appears as a skeletal figure draped in flowing black robes, his skin wrinkled and lesions visible, giving him a ghastly, deathly appearance. His cracked lips and hollow eye sockets evoke a sense of dread, while his high whisper lacks inflection, making his words chillingly emotionless. This visage, the Lord of Bones, is a paragon of nightmares, symbolizing the fear of death that he embodies.
personality
Myrkul thrives on fear and unease, ensuring that mortals remember him as the harbinger of death. He speaks in a high whisper, devoid of emotion, and relishes in the knowledge that all things must die. His presence is a constant reminder of mortality, and he seeks to instill dread in the hearts of the living. Myrkul's relationships are complex; he allies with dark deities while opposing those who embody life and growth.
backstory
Myrkul, once a mortal necromancer named Myrkul Bey al-Kursi, ascended to godhood alongside Bhaal and Bane. As the Lord of the Dead, he ruled from the Bone Castle in the Gray Wastes, embodying decay and fear. His rise to power involved slaying a Lost God and winning a game of knucklebones against Bane. Despite his fearsome reputation, he was overshadowed by Bane and Bhaal in worship. During the Time of Troubles, he conspired with Bane to steal the Tablets of Fate, leading to their banishment to Toril. Myrkul's avatar later appeared in Waterdeep, where he sought to reclaim the tablets, ultimately leading to his destruction at the hands of a young mage. His essence lingers, reminding mortals of their inevitable fate.
