I. Skyrim

Overview

Skyrim is the broad northern region of Tamriel, but during the Late Merethic Era it is not yet a Nordic kingdom. Much of the land is still dominated by the Falmer, whose settlements, sacred sites, roads, and local rulers define the political landscape.

The region is also home to Giants, Orsimer, Goblins, Nedic communities, dragons, and increasing numbers of Atmoran settlers.

The Land

Skyrim is a harsh region of mountains, forests, tundra, glacial valleys, rivers, lakes, and cold northern coasts.

Travel is controlled by mountain passes, river valleys, coastal routes, and a small number of reliable roads.

Because the terrain is difficult, even powerful rulers often exercise only limited control outside established settlements and strategic routes.

Falmer Kingdoms

The Falmer remain the strongest established civilization in the north.

Their settlements occupy fertile valleys, mountain routes, sacred regions, and important trade corridors. Different Falmer rulers control separate territories, and their kingdoms are not perfectly unified.

Shared religion and culture connect them, but local rivalries remain important.

Their devotion to Auri-El shapes temples, pilgrimage, law, and political legitimacy.

Other Northern Peoples

Giants move through open highlands and tundra with mammoth herds, while Orsimer and Goblin communities occupy mountains, caves, and frontier territories.

Older human populations also remain in parts of the north.

These groups are not merely scattered monsters or isolated tribes. They control real territory and participate in northern trade, warfare, and diplomacy.

Atmoran Settlement

Atmoran migration across the Sea of Ghosts is increasing.

Some arrivals are refugees, settlers, traders, or followers of powerful clans. Others come seeking land and independence.

Early relations with the Falmer vary widely. Trade and negotiated settlement exist alongside suspicion and local conflict.

The major wars that later define Nordic history have not yet occurred.

Dragons and the Dragon Cult

Dragons remain active political and religious powers.

Atmoran communities influenced by the Dragon Cult may recognize Dragon Priests or dragons themselves as rulers, sacred authorities, or protectors.

This creates an additional layer of tension because northern politics are not simply a struggle between Falmer and Atmorans.

Dragons possess their own interests.

Trade and Travel

Northern trade moves along coasts, rivers, valleys, and mountain passes.

Falmer settlements exchange crafted goods, food, magical materials, and metalwork with neighboring peoples. Atmoran ships bring tools, livestock, weapons, and settlers from the north.

Trade routes are increasingly important because the same paths used by merchants also guide migration and military movement.

Skyrim in the Age of Myth

During the Late Merethic Era, Skyrim is still primarily a Falmer-dominated northern region under growing Atmoran pressure.
