J. Resdayn

Overview

Resdayn is the eastern region of Tamriel dominated by the Chimer and Dwemer during the Late Merethic Era. The later land called Morrowind does not yet exist in its familiar political form, and neither the Tribunal nor the Dunmer are part of the current age.

The region is divided among Chimer clans, Velothi communities, Dwemer city-states, sacred sites, trade routes, and territories shaped by the immense presence of Red Mountain.

The Land

Resdayn includes volcanic mountains, ashlands, fertile valleys, coasts, wetlands, rocky uplands, and unusual fungal environments.

Red Mountain dominates the center of the region both physically and spiritually. Its volcanic activity shapes the surrounding land, while its deeper connection to Lorkhan and the mysteries of Mundus makes it one of Nirn's most important sacred and metaphysical sites.

The Chimer

The Chimer occupy settlements, clan territories, pilgrimage routes, and sacred lands throughout Resdayn.

Their culture is centered on Veloth, ancestor worship, clan identity, and devotion to Azura, Boethiah, and Mephala.

Some communities are settled and increasingly powerful, while others preserve more mobile Velothi traditions.

The later Great Houses are only beginning to emerge from these older clan structures.

The Dwemer

The Dwemer control numerous underground and mountain city-states.

Their settlements contain mines, workshops, machines, automatons, and major engineering systems. Each city remains politically independent, though trade and scholarship connect them.

Dwemer interest in Red Mountain is growing because of its mineral wealth and deeper metaphysical mysteries.

Chimer-Dwemer Relations

Relations between Chimer and Dwemer are one of the defining tensions of Resdayn.

The Chimer are deeply religious, while the Dwemer approach reality through philosophy, engineering, mathematics, and tonal principles.

These differences create hostility, but the two peoples are not in constant war.

Trade, treaties, border disputes, temporary alliances, and open conflict can all occur at the same time.

Travel and Settlement

Travel through Resdayn can be difficult because of ash storms, mountains, volcanic terrain, and political boundaries.

Chimer caravan routes connect clan settlements and sacred sites, while Dwemer roads and underground passages link their cities.

Coastal routes are especially important for trade with other regions.

Many areas between major settlements remain dangerous or only lightly controlled.

Resdayn in the Age of Myth

During the Late Merethic Era, Resdayn is a divided eastern land shared by two powerful but fundamentally different Merish civilizations.
