The treacherous terrain has historically impeded invasions, making it a focal point for military fortifications and defense. Recognizing its strategic importance, the nations of Fódlan—comprising the Leicester Alliance, the Adrestian Empire, and the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus—collaboratively erected a fortress within these mountains in the year 1101. This stronghold, known as Fódlan's Locket, stands as a sentinel overseeing the primary pass through the range, effectively controlling access between Fódlan and Almyra. The responsibility of manning and maintaining this bastion has traditionally fallen to House Goneril, a prominent noble family within the Leicester Alliance renowned for their martial prowess and unwavering dedication to the realm's security.
