Description

The Gem District of Athkatla, perched on the north bank of the Alandor River, is a gilded warren of excess and ambition. Home to the city’s wealthiest merchant dynasties, every inch of the district shouts opulence—from mother-of-pearl shutters to rooftops inset with sapphires. Families such as the Baerlbohuns, Darasttirs, and Jalasras vie not just in trade but in flamboyant displays of power, erecting gaudy mansions, gem-encrusted fountains, and private vaults disguised as art galleries. Beneath the glittering surface lies a quieter war of spies, marriages, and sabotage as fortunes are made and unmade in the shimmer of candlelight auctions and jewel-backed promissory notes. No single landmark claims prominence—every estate seeks to outshine the next, resulting in a chaotic mosaic of architectural vanity. Here, coin is worshipped more zealously than any god.

Appearance

Walking through the Gem District is like stepping into a jeweler’s fever dream. Mansions sparkle with colored glass, inlaid gems, and gold-trimmed columns. The streets echo with the hush of silk robes and the clink of guards’ gilded armor. Daylight flashes off mirrored windows, while peacocks roam marble courtyards. The air smells of incense, polish, and ambition.
