Rising like a gilded beacon northwest of Athkatla’s walls, Goldspires is a grand abbey-fortress dedicated to Waukeen, goddess of trade and wealth. In the mid-to-late 14th century DR, it served as the beating heart of her faith in Amn, attracting pilgrims, merchants, and power-hungry nobility alike. The abbey is nearly a city unto itself, surrounded by tall crenellated walls and accessed through gleaming gold-plated gates that reflect the sun like polished coin. Twelve major mercantile companies and seven ambitious merchant houses backed the abbey, hoping to tether their fortunes to Waukeen’s divine favor. From its vaulted halls echo sermons on prosperity, honest trade, and the sanctity of coin, while its vaults hold not only offerings and relics, but powerful secrets and political leverage. Though outside the city proper, Goldspires holds undeniable sway over Athkatla’s economic and spiritual pulse.
Goldspires glimmers atop a rocky rise, its gold-leafed domes catching the sunlight like twin suns. Bannered spires rise from stout ramparts, each emblazoned with Waukeen’s golden coin. Pilgrims and traders fill its marbled courtyards, the scent of incense mingling with fine spices. Within, vaulted halls glow with candlelight and polished brass, echoing with hymns to commerce.
