Qrento is a shantytown sprawled across the hills east of Athkatla’s Trade District, technically outside the city’s official jurisdiction but deeply entangled with its economy. Home to laborers, itinerant craftsmen, indentured workers, and those displaced by the city’s brutal class stratification, Qrento serves as both a source of cheap labor and a pressure valve for the social tensions brewing within Athkatla’s wealthier wards. Despite its poverty, Qrento buzzes with activity: makeshift smithies churn out rough tools, open-air stalls sell foraged goods, and unlicensed alchemists hawk dubious potions. The Cowled Wizards rarely venture here, and local justice is meted out by gang elders, ex-soldiers, or self-proclaimed protectors. The Council of Six deliberately ignores Qrento’s growth, allowing trade guilds to exploit it as a deniable, off-books labor reserve. For adventurers, Qrento offers secrecy, danger, and opportunity in equal measure.
Qrento is a sprawl of sagging timber huts, patched tents, and half-sunken stonework, built atop sunbaked hills dotted with scavenged refuse and scrappy garden plots. Smoke drifts from rusted chimneys, and the air is thick with sweat, cookfires, and the acrid tang of poorly distilled alchemy. Narrow dirt lanes buzz with barefoot children, barter-criers, and wary-eyed locals.
